The Utopic mission of helping artists for free is what has motivated me to help in return. Here is my story, and someday I hope to hear yours as well.
My name is Kurt Hoffmann and for the past 7 years I have been taking stones and making them into unique forms of artwork. My work has been sought after for some time but like many people in the US a lot has changed. From what once was the land of plenty is now a real struggle. From September to November of 2009 I averaged about three sales per month. This was enough to cover my material costs and necessary expenses. Things have been getting tougher and I started to doubt whether I would be able to continue doing what I love.
In December of 09' I was working on my Zen table and thought; “How can I sell just one or two additional pieces this month? Should I spend money on advertising?” I felt that would just waste my money and it was only a temporary solution. More exposure was the key but I just could not afford it. Unsure of the solution I started my quest online. I tried a couple art directories, but my listings were just buried among the thousands, and I really did not get any publicity. I tried to sell my artwork using an item publishing website. I then decided to make my own site with a website creator but my site was not connected to anything, leaving me stranded. It was frustrating adding my listings over and over again, so I continued my search. On a Sunny afternoon, I found Utopic Studios, and a lot has changed.
At first glance the website seemed simple. After logging in I realized how much functionality had been built into the system. Every time I add an item, it is automatically transformed into its own permanent web page I added a META description and Keywords and now my items can be found in Search Engines. The look and feel of my website is all controlled from the Utopic dashboard alleviating the hassles of web design. I can add tabs, a contact page, and items like it’s my own website. Other people can leave comments, after I make sure they are appropriate.
The amount of time and functionality that they have added to help artists like this for free is what really inspires me. It was only after talking with the creator that I realized what this was really all about. “For every 50 people that I help, one of them will return a favor and when this happens good karma will continuously spread infinitely through our world.”
